A New York Minute Part 1: Launching #curatedbyRC

We all have one city in mind that makes us feel truly alive, the city version of you, your city twin! For me, and for the longest time I thought that city was Cairo for me and in many ways it always was, and always will be, however … something about New York City makes my heart beat faster and for that reason and that reason alone I believe the BIG apple deserves a curated by RC blog post.

Let’s start where you know I always like to start, the Pilates scene. Once of my signature travel hacks is to get off the plane, and if possible, I know this sounds crazy, but head straight to your favorite workout wherever you are. I know I know … this is madness but I swear by this. Do this just once at the beginning of your stay, no matter how short or how long, and it will set the tone of your whole trip!

In NYC I was told by trusted Tiktokers that THE place to grab coffee on a Saturday and in general is Cafe Lyria in SOHO. Guys! I got their signature Lyria blend and i kid you not this is the yummiest smoothest most delicious coffee I’ve had in YEARS.

After coffee, I went straight to Solidcore in NOHO for a Lagree-style reformer Pilates workout. I actually loved the space, it’s a little intimidating I have to say, but since it’s the biggest studio in NYC with the most machines you can easily blend in and go with the flow.

SOHO is truly an bottomless Stanley cup of fashion gems waiting to be dicovered, and even thpough Newyorkers call it the new Times Square due to tourists falling in love with the area, I truly disagree since the people of SOHO are stylish as ever. If you want to be inspired I’d recommend just walking around, visiting the KITH store and grabbing brunch at Citizens of Soho. Yes, I ordered waffles with all the jazz, and no I do not regret it. They were sublime.

I ended my day at Grand Central Station, to take the train upstate where I was staying for the week. The Station is definitely worth a visit and just as dreamy as in the movies and Gossip Girl #iykyk, make sure not the miss the market in the back.

Now that we’ve set the scene, below I’ll leave you guys with a full 3-day itinerary, which I truly think covered the major parts of NYC that you need to see, visit, walk-past and just take-in as part of your trip as a first-timer in the city or to be honest as a frequenter who never ever gets bored of this city like myself.

Day 1 - The High Line & edge

*Make sure to pre-book the sunset slot at EDGE.

Brunch at RH Rooftop for some delicious eggs with a side of truffle fries, not to mention a viewing of some of the best furniture and interiors in NYC by Restoration Hardware.

Grab coffee at cult favorite Intellegentsia at The High Line Hotel and take a walk through the city via The High Line, followed by some artisianal shopping at Chelsea Market.

Take the tube to Battery Park to see Lady Liberty from the park, followed by a midday stroll through the financial district, maybe take a picture with the Charing Bull of Wall Street and end at the 911 memorial grounds.

Take the tube back and end the day with EDGE, to get a full 360 view of the city at sunset.

Day 2 - 5th Avenue & Rockefeller

Start the day with coffee at SAKS 5th avenue and spend the day walking down the avenue window shopping enjoying the view.

Make sure to plan a route that passes in front of the Rockefeller center, one of the most beautiful areas of NYC in my opinion.

End the day with a stroll in Central Park.

Day 3 - The MET, Uptown & Times Square

Start the day a The Met to get a cultural feel of the world, and visit the costume institute. Pro Tip: Make sure to book your place as soon as you enter the museum.

One of the best areas of the city is Uptown, where you can start at the iconic Plaza hotel and get to visit Apple off Central Park.

Spend the day enjoying the shopping around this area and book an early dinner at TAO Uptown.

End the night with a stroll to the iconic Times Square where you’ll probably only be able to stand for a few minutes but make sure you time it so that you arrive at sunset or after dark, because after all NYC is the City of Lights.

More to come in Part 2 so stay tuned …
