Love, Lace and Rock & Roll by Fufa
They say the holidays bring us together, and that any occasion to celebrate is always an occasion to dress up.
This time of year reminds us all of the people we hold near to our hearts and the places that feel like home.
Fufa is a local Egyptian brand that was founded in 2014 by young and aspiring designer Farah "Fufa" El Ashiry looking to bring a little boho-chic back into our lives and to revive the intrinsically Egyptian love for detailed patterns, embroidery and ambiguous fabrics. Within months the brand with its charmingly unique "hand written" logo and beachy editorial locations, managed to capture the essence of a free spirited gypsy woman living by the beach and in the city all at once. A Cairienne girl with flair.
From the birth of this refreshing label one of the things that stood out to me most, was their spontaneous, light hearted and inclusive photoshoot style.
Lace, Love and Rock & Roll was part one of Fufa's fall/winter collection this year, which dropped on November 23rd. The editorial for this - as seen in this article - was a dark and sultry slice of Punk Rock eutopia, it felt like a bohemian open mic night held at a vintage snooker bar. Actually captured at Zamalek culture hub 3elbet Alwan.
The models were draped in the velvet, lace and paisley gold embroidered fabrics. The high exposure shots versus epoch setting, mixed modern photographic style with rustic interior design to create a captivating series of pictures that showcased the mood of a perfectly winterfell moment.
With Christmas around the corner, Fufa released a second winter capsule collection entirely inspired and made using my all time favorite fabric - velvet of course - entitled The Festive Collection.
I walked into the launch event for part two of Fufa's winter season, held on Wednesday 21st of December, to a BO HO HO Christmas soundtrack echoing across the streets of Zamalek, spreading good vibes and infectious energy all around.
The sound of friends caroling and a make shift Christmas tree formed out of string and firefly lights, fabric samples and ornaments held true to genuine Christmas spirit. A game of Tombola, fondue pots and marshmallows made for a signature cosy affair.
So in case you haven't yet chosen the perfect New Years outfit, or are running out of 'ish to wear to the plethora of Xmas parties flooding the inboxes ... or just want to look fabulous on a night out with friends at Mezcal - yummy Peruvian food but more on that later - then hit up Fufa or visit ABn'G World in Zamalek to get a little art inspiration while grabbing your next show stopping slip dress. Two birds, one stone.
Happy holidays Radical people!
